American general who led bombing campaign that defeated ISIS criticizes Israel's air campaign.
He admits he has limited insight into Israel's procedures, but Biden listens to him anyway.
Gen. Charles Q. Brown is chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. During the war against ISIS, he was in charge of formulating the bombing campaign that broke the back of the Caliphate. Brown is credited with figuring out that without sustained airstrikes on key cites held by ISIS, the war might not be won. With these strikes, ISIS was defeated.
The air strikes unleashed by the U.S. and its allies on ISIS strongholds like Mosul and Raqqa resulted in thousands of civilian deaths. The number of casualties is in dispute, but may have reached 8,000.
Gen. Brown came in for lots of criticism for these casualties from the usual suspects. He claims, however, that the U.S. acted with great restraint in its bombing campaign.
If the general sleeps better at night by believing this, that’s fine. Having played a major role in defeating ISIS, he deserves to sleep well.
