Now that the Democrats seem at least as likely as not to win the White House, those Senate races for seats currently held by Democrats have gone from important to absolute crucial for both parties. No longer can Republicans take comfort from the fact that, come January, they are likely to hold 50 seats — the ones they hold now plus the one held by Joe Manchin. Fifty seats won’t be enough if Harris wins.
With control of the White House, the Senate, and the House (which the Dems are at least as likely as not to recapture), Democrats would be able to enact any radical legislation they favor. Even more importantly, they would be able to change the structure of our government.
