Yesterday, I wrote a post the starting point of which was an analysis of hiring by S&P 100 companies in 2021. According to the analysis, whites made up only 6 percent of hires by these firms that year.
I know that corporate America is bending over backwards.to hire “people of color,” but the Bloomberg numbers were shocking. They seemed too bad to be true.
On the other hand, I’ve always considered Bloomberg a reliable source of raw economic news and numbers. Accordingly, I took its report on 2021 hiring at face value and based my post on it.
However, this report by Luke Rosiak of the Daily Wire argues that Bloomberg “flubbed the data” in its analysis. It finds that the hiring of whites by the firms in question did not change much in 2021 and that whites actually made up around 46 percent of their hires that year.
In response, Bloomberg says “We stand by our reporting and analysis.” In my view, though, Rosiak’s reporting and analysis seem pretty persuasive.
I’m writing this post to make sure our readers have a chance to judge the accuracy of Bloomberg’s analysis for themselves..
Thank you for demonstrating integrity and curiosity about what’s ACTUALLY true, rather than uncritically glomming onto data that supports your side. I wish that “good liberals” would do the same.
