I do have the feeling (and not a good one) that if Trump had been President on December 7, 1941 he would have called the Emperor of Japan on December 8 and tried to seek a deal. It may be that he wants the economic win for the mid-terms, is counting on Iran to break the deal somehow, and then go for finishing the job. That could also be wishful thinking on my part.
