The single most important political development for the country over the next two-plus years would be that Trump not seek the Presidency again. This hearing will help achieve that because it cannot but undermine his support. The hearings generally are showing that Trump is isolated in the Party and, largely when the chips were down, was isolated in his own White House. This will help Republicans from top to bottom.

According to a report in the Washington Post, Trump was not riding in "The Beast" on Jan. 6. Rather, he rode in a Secret Service SUV, where the seats are closer together. And according to the same report, even if Trump had ridden in the Beast, the rear and front seats have a glass window the president can lower whenever he’d like.

This report, like others that are circulating on both sides, may or may not be accurate. I think it's best to reserve judgment on Hutchinson's testimony regarding this point for now, which is what I tried to do in my post.

I gave up knee-jerk reacting to anything the media tries to stampede people with when they tried to float the "Trump laughed at war dead" fraud (even people with "Trump! Aieeee!1!!eleventy!!!" memoirs out at the time said that was patently false). The "beast" is not an ordinary limo, there is no openable partition to the back. There is physically no way he could reach the driver even if he wanted to. How stupid do they think we are...?

I’m not a fan of Trump the man, but I’m a YUGE fan of his policies and his presidency. Pretty much everything the media has breathlessly reported as bombshells about trump has turned out to be exaggerated, misrepresented, or outright lies. If anything crazy or bad has been proven to be true, as they’ve reported about him, unless it’s on video, I have not seen it. Why exactly, should I now believe otherwise? A bunch of clanging gongs. That said, I would be relieved if he didn’t run. But I’ll crawl over red hot broken glass to vote for him if I must. We are fighting a civil war against true communists and we need the toughest bastards we can find. If this is all true, I actually wouldn’t be surprised, but it would not prevent me from voting for him. Under the current circumstances, it might make me even more motivated, actually.

I'm not as optimistic. Trump's conduct was horrible. If a fair impeachment proceeding could have been conducted before he left office I would have supported it. However, the basic unfairness and partisanship with which the hearings are being conducted is undermining their effectiveness except with partisan Democrats who are already anti-Trump. The story regarding the physical conflict between Trump and a secret service agent has all the appearances of a false rumor and it appears the committee has testimony from the agent refuting it. The fact that this is being hidden and that Hutchinson's many depositions are not be released is almost as hard to believe as Trump's conduct is deplorable.

Trump has had many incidents of bad judgment. I recall how he called Colin Powell a RINO right after his death. Whether Powell was a RINO or not is irrelevant. Just unnecessary and plain stupid.

I wonder if the Dems realize they will be doing the Repubs a favor if they get Trump out of the way of de Santiago

Meanwhile, it’s not very big news that we have the single most corrupt administration in the history of this nation in charge right now. https://nypost.com/2022/06/27/voicemail-shows-joe-biden-knew-of-hunters-china-dealings-report/

Well this testimony didn’t even last the day. You should really be more skeptical of things you see on the TEEVEE.

I agree today was a bad day for Trump, but there were a couple of points on which cross-examination would have been helpful. There was evidence of guns near the elipse when Trump was talking, and guns around the Capitol, but I don't think the Capitol invaders had guns inside the breached Capitol. So what, exactly, is the evidence concerning guns?

There was testimony Trump wanted to go to the Capitol so badly he tried to wrest control of his car from the driver. Not sure which way this testimony cuts. What's the likelihood Trump would have wanted to be at the Capitol so badly if (i) he thought there would be an invasion of the Capitol, and (ii) he thought the invaders would be armed?
