To Doug and CjB,

We're in a rotten political situation none of us created or wants. It's ominous, you bet, and it's hard to see a way out. Still, I'm largely the impish kid I was in seventh grade, and in its way it tickles me pink to watch our Ever So Pompous opponents discover, in a way their leading mouthpiece itself can no longer deny, that they've embraced a sourpuss version of Mr. MaGoo. It's a scary version of karma, but to an impish kid, a satisfying one (as long as I can keep myself from thinking too often about where all this is headed).

Biden took the documents. He wasn't confused or demented when he did it. He didn't have the authority to take the documents. He knew that he was breaking the law. End of story.

Bill,

Any theories as to how they avoid prosecuting the ghost writer for destroying the tapes? He not only admitted it, but also that it was after he found out about the investigation.

Isn’t it a textbook case?

There is no legal penalty for failure to prosecute. There is, however, a political penalty, namely, in the next election, install someone who will hire a more sober and responsible prosecutor. No, it gives no satisfaction for the Prosecution That Wasn't, but it's the best were going to do under the current state of the law.

Yeah, I get that there is no penalty. I guess I’m wondering if you believe there is legitimate legal merit for not prosecuting other than, “We don’t want to.”

After the report was issued, I observed lame excuses by Biden surrogates and flunkies, along with seeming glee among many right-leaning pundits. I would have much preferred that the special counsel indict President Biden on the applicable charge(s), note his extraordinary lapses of memory during the investigation, and allow this fact to speak for itself. There was no need to play doctor in the report in order to justify not charging him.

Sorry to say I don't find anything fun or enjoyable about this. It's outrageous beyond belief that this man intends to be the Democratic choice for president and the only problem the party seems to have is not that he is manifestly unfit to serve now let alone for another five years but on how it will affect the election. Nobody seems to care how dangerous this is for the country to have Grandpa Simpson as president. That said the idiocy of nominating Trump when any normal Republican would likely win a landslide fills me with despair.

Except for the last sentence, I concur.
