I too think Kristi Noem would be a great pick, though there is one potential fly in her ointment. There are rumors she had an extramarital affair with Corey Lewandowski while she was the South Dakota congresswoman. Whether that disqualifies her in this day and age is debatable, I love it that Paul puts [sic] after a "they" the Post uses to refer to one person. This is bad enough when they is used to refer to a person of unknown gender, but it is also used when it refers to an identified person. The usage is grating and often confusing. If the Post insisted on using they, it could have easily reworded the prior sentence to refer to all potential vice presidential candidates. Jim Dueholm

Thanks, Jim. Yes, the rumors about an affair with Lewandowski are probably what the article was referring to as Noem's "baggage."

Regardless, I think Noem would be a logical pick.

I tend to agree, though the rumors, which I don't think have been denied, could get into the state of Noem's marriage, which could get messy. Jim Dueholm

I think there is still a double standard in US politics. An affair for a woman might be disqualifying even when the chooser is a philanderer himself . I personally would be excited about Rubio but as someone who votes for the GOP other than for Trump, I am not the target audience.

Thanks for the comment.

You may be right about the double standard. I should probably revise my assessment of Noem's suitability downward.

I still suspect that Trump wants her on the ticket, and though she would be an imperfect choice -- like just about all of the others -- she might still be the right one.

Not contradict him? What is she going to say when she is asked the question outright? No comment? That's the same thing as saying yes.

I think "no comment" would be more like saying "no." She will not say "no comment." I think she will say "yes."

My point was that she need not, and may not, believe the claim.

I see. Well I doubt more than a handful of elected Republicans believe the claim. The problem is that they will say they do as you note. The only way I would accept this is if someday the Veep who said it becomes president and immediately repudiates Trump and his nonsense and says "I just needed to pretend to get my foot in the door." Not very likely. But it's so important to me that MAGA end at some point that I'd accept this hypocrisy. Marco Rubio probably most likely to do it but still not very likely.
