Given how the pardon power has been increasingly abused beginning with Clinton in 2000, its long past time for a constitutional amendment limiting it. I bet that would have overall bipartisan support.

It's true Trump's view of pardons is transactional, but I doubt that accounts for the Blagojevich pardon. Trump commuted Blagojevich's sentence in his first term, so this is the second favor to the disgraced governor. My guess is there's just something of the maverick in or personality of Blagojevich that appeals to Trump. Jim Dueholm

The extreme lawfare campaign against Trump by the lawless Dems clearly conditioned Trump to lean toward the belief that most prosecuting of politicians was political. Probably at least partly a reason for this, plus Blago is an engaging personality. Clearly a factor in the DOJ dropping the case against Eric Adams.
