I read a hint from another Substack author who took the unusual tack of keeping new-ish posts free and charging for access to older, archived posts. To his surprise it worked very well for him; new folks came in for the new free posts, decided they liked the guys work and signed up to read the old stuff.

Not sure how it would work for very topical posts but a lot of your stuff has enduring value.

If I pay the $60, am I able to post the Ringside column in our small private Facebook Group in a way that allows the others to read whole articles - analogous to the practice of a family sharing a subscription to a newspaper or magazine - or will all the members of our small Facebook Group still have to each pay $60 in order to read Ringside.?

Thanks for asking. I don't know the answer, but will check and let you know.

Bill and I would like it to work so that you could post our "paid subscribers only" stuff on your private group Facebook site and thereby enable others to read whole articles without paying. However, we are at the mercy of Substack.

I haven't received a definitive answer, but my sense is that if you posted a link to a Ringside article on Facebook that we've designated as "paid subscribers only," other people would need to pay to read the entire article. Of course you could copy and paste the entire article into the FB post., but that would require extra work.

If it turns out otherwise, I'll try to remember to let you know.
